This video is of a former colleague of both Laurel's and mine at the CSU Vet Teaching Hospital.
Dr. Narda Robinson is a veterinarian, medical acupuncturist, and osteopathic physician. She teaches at CSU's College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and she is the director of the CSU Center for Comparative and Integrative Pain Medicine. She treats animals using acupuncture, and teaches the techniques to students and other veterinarians.
This short video shows Dr. Robinson at work with her patient, Jack. The technique is quite amazing to watch! The results speak for themselves with her patients!
Have you ever had acupuncture done for your animals? How about for yourself? I have had it done for me! I would definitely consider it for an animal as well.

I have had acupuncture for me, and I would consider for a pet as well, though I haven't as of yet. One of my cats had a bout of asthma this past summer. If it strikes again I plan to give acupuncture a try as the typical treatment is steroid shots or pills. So far it hasn't come back, thank goodness.

A few years ago, we had a veterinarian at our hospital who was certified to do veterinary acupuncture (by taking Narda Robinson's classes). Many of our clients were very pleased and we think that some of our patients benefitted as well.

I worked with a certified veterinary acupuncturist at the practice I managed for eight years (certified through IVAS). The benefits to the patients receiving acupuncture were amazing, sometimes bordering on miraculous. In particular, arthritic dogs seemed to really benefit. It was so wonderful to see formerly limping dogs who were clearly in some level of discomfort or pain act like puppies after only a few sessions!
I've also had acupuncture for myself for various minor ailments, and I'm a firm believer that it works, often better than conventional medicine. In particular, I credit acupuncture for my full recovery from a shoulder problem a couple of years ago. While physical therapy played an important part, it wasn't until I added acupuncture to the mix that I made quicker and bigger strides in my recovery.

I really like that veterinarians are incorporating things like acupuncture into their practices.
I think acupuncture can be highly effective. I had numerous sessions for a period of time a few years back. I was suffering from regular migraines. While the acupuncture didn't stop the headaches (bummer) it did really help me to relax and learn to deal with the pain better.
I also have a friend who used acupuncture for an elderly cat. It helped Roxane be much more comfortable!
