The police force in Muncie, Indiana is about to receive a new K-9 partner. They had to retire their last police dog, Rover, at 13 years old. They ran into problems with funding to get a new dog.
It seems that this is when Ozzy Osbourne stepped in to help. Yep, that Ozzy! His son, Jack, had apparently worked with the team in Muncie on a very short-lived TV program called "Armed and Famous". He kept up a good relationship with them even once the show was cancelled. When Jack heard about the troubles in Muncie, he asked his famous father to help.
The Osbourne family are all dog lovers. Ozzy agreed immediately to help Jack's police force friends out. They have purchased a new K-9 for the force and he is being trained in Denver, CO currently. They plan to name the dog, drum-roll... Ozzy. The donation not only covers the purchase and training of the new dog, but will cover food, vet expenses, and other things so that the Muncie tax-payers won't have to take on the burden.
I really love hearing about celebrities doing great things like this. I was never an Ozzy fan until lately. I think I'm becoming one! Have you heard of other things celebrities have done to help animal-related causes? (photo from telegraph.co.uk)

Great story, Tammy!
(I love the dog with Ozzy in the pic! What a cutie.)

I never expected to see Ozzy Ozbourne on this blog, that's for sure!
I take it the dog in the photo is not the new police dog, though :-)?

You know - I'm a fan of the Osbournes! More and more, I find out things about them to like! (I'm a huge Dancing with the Stars fan, and rooting for daughter Kelly this season!) :)
You're right Ingrid (and made me laugh by the way!) - the dog pictured is NOT the police dog. Although these little fluffy types sometimes think they are tough enough! I haven't seen any pictures of the new dog yet. He's a German Shepherd from what I've read!

I'm a fan, too. It seems like the Ozbornes are the typical American family living the American dream, with a twist! They seem to genuinely care about one another and that's what I fing appealing.
I love these stories, too, and wish the major media included them rather than all the murders and crimes. We need a good news channel to balance CNN and the rest. Maybe the Ozbournes could start one of those!

I like the idea of a positive news channel, Laurel. When well-known people take a stand or do something generous, it creates positive effects all around! (When anyone does something positive, it sends out positive ripples. Just seems like famous folks make bigger ripples.) ;-) I'm glad to hear such positive things about the Osbourne family --my images of Ozzy are less-than-positive. Must have been part of the act.
Paul Newman was a philanthropist and also has a brand of pet food. I imagine he may have contributed to some animal causes, though I don't know for sure. Didn't Oprah adopt some rescue dogs? Seems like celebs and their pets are often in the news, and it seems like there have been others standing up for animal rights and other causes. Robert Redford was a spokesperson for the Natural Resources Defense Council, I think. This awesome group uses the law to protect endangered species and wild places. I'm sure there are many other examples.
